The Ultimate Destination

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

A couple of years ago, my wife and I surprised my kids with a trip to Disney World in Florida. They had no idea we were going there until the morning of the flight, and they really didn’t know what to expect. They had heard about the “Magic Kingdom” before, but couldn’t even begin to imagine all of the things they would experience there.

Dead To Sin

“So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 6:11)

I used to have a couple of fish tanks when I was a child, one with goldfish and the other with freshwater tropical fish. For those of you who have ever taken care of small fish, they tend to die quite easily (or maybe that was just me). For those that died, I would say goodbye, ceremoniously flush them down the toilet, and turn my attention to care for those that were alive.

More Than A Paycheck

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23)

Last night after dinner, I ventured out in the face-melting Texas heat to fish in a neighborhood pond. With many losing their primary jobs due to the pandemic, you may find yourself in a similar situation.

The Main Thing

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1-3)

The last two weeks have been very heavy for many people. If you’ve been following the news at all, there’s no shortage of unsettling events occurring not only across the United States, but around the world.

I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to directly communicate with various people from various races and religions regarding both the pandemic and the George Floyd incident, and the thing that I’ve found interesting is that no two people have the exact same views. Since I tend to look at the world and its events through my own Christian lens, the thing that’s been even more intriguing is that the Christians I’ve spoken to often view them in completely different or even conflicting ways. And these are people who, as far as what I know of them, genuinely love Jesus and have a desire to put Him first in their lives.

Power, Love, & Self-Control

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

As believers, we have a purpose in life, and that is to bring glory to God and carry the good news of Jesus to the ends of the earth. Once you accept that calling, you’ll realize soon enough that it’s not easy.
