Praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:1-6)

“Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” (Psa. 150:1-6)

As a “praise/worship leader” in a contemporary church setting, Psalm 150 is one of my go-to Scriptures for reminding people that God not only created us to praise Him with music, instruments, and dancing, but that He EXPECTS us to do so! Forewarning, this may end up being more of a rant than anything since this topic is near and dear to me. 😉 (more…)

Call On Him (Psalm 145:18-20)

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.” (Psa. 145:18-20)

Psalm 145 has so many amazing truths, and the Lord spoke to me about many situations in my life throughout its different verses. It made it hard to pick just one to share some thoughts on today! That said, verses 18-20 reminds me of his faithfulness. (more…)

I Lift Up My Soul (Psalm 143:8)

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” (Psa. 143:8)

David was crying out in the midst of despair, hopelessness, and depression. He prayed to the Lord for deliverance from his enemies, and also for divine guidance- not that he would do his own will, but that the Lord would be the one to lead him and give him hope for His Name’s sake. (more…)

He Knows You (Psalm 139:1)

“O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.” (Psa. 139:1)

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?” (Psa. 139:7)
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psa. 139:13-14)

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psa. 139:23-24)

Psalm 139 has easily become on of my favorite psalms! David pens so many wonderful truths and thoughts about the Lord that bring us a deeper look into God’s beauty and greatness. (more…)
