Held Down (Hosea 5:4)

“Their deeds do not permit them to return to their God. A spirit of prostitution is in their heart; they do not acknowledge the Lord.” (Hosea 5:4)

Sin is a terrible thing. It is rebellion against God and His statutes, it disrupts His original design for creation causing pain, anguish, and turmoil, and its penalty is death- not only physical, but spiritual. (more…)

Shifting Blame (Hosea 4:4)

“But let no man bring a charge, let no man accuse another, for your people are like those who bring charges against a priest.” (Hosea 4:4)

I’m going to assume that the majority of you reading my blog posts are adults. As adults, God has given most of us the mental capacity to read His Word, follow the convictions and leading of the Holy Spirit, and make decisions that align to each. Temptation & Sin (Proverbs 5:21-23)

“For a man’s ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all his paths. The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast. He will die for lack of discipline, led astray by his own great folly.” (Prov. 5:21-23)

Proverbs 5 is a warning against adultery, and really against sexual immorality in general. (more…)

Keeping Watch (Psalm 141:3-4)

“Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies.” (Psa. 141:3-4)

Passages like James 3 and Proverbs 18 remind us that both life and death are in the power of the tongue, and in Proverbs 4:23 we’re commanded to “above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” No wonder these two parts of our being are called out specifically in this passage, as they can both lead us to paths of destruction or paths of righteousness! (more…)

Vicious Cycle (Psalm 106:13-14)

“But they soon forgot what He had done and did not wait for His plan to unfold. In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put God to the test.” (Psa. 106:13-14)

Psalm 106 recaps Israel’s history of rebellion, and concludes with a prayer for God to once again save them. When I read verses 13-14, it reminded me that this could be any Christian at any point of time in their life, including myself. (more…)
