Beyond Belief (John 8:31-32)

“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'” (John 8:31-32)

Belief in Jesus Christ is not enough. Belief that He existed, belief that He is God, and even belief that He died on the cross and rose again– simply believing that any of those things happened and are true does not set you free from sin, nor will it save you from being eternally separated from God. The Rewards of Wisdom (Proverbs 2:9-11)

“Then you will understand what is right and just and fair- every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.” (Prov. 2:9-11)

In Proverbs 2, God gives us very clear instruction on how to gain both godly wisdom, and reap the moral/spiritual benefits of it. Sometimes it helps me to see things in simplified lists, as it allows me to focus on practical application. (more…)

The Beginning of Knowledge (Proverbs 1:7)

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Prov. 1:7)

The book of Proverbs is clear on its intent, which is to impart wisdom for godly living. Many of the Proverbs are from King Solomon, who was known as the wisest man alive when God gave him the gift of wisdom. (more…)
