Yes, Master? (Hosea 2:16)

“‘In that day,’ declares the Lord, ‘you will call me ‘my husband’; you will no longer call me ‘my master.'” (Hosea 2:16)

Husbands often joke that their wife is “the boss” or “the master” of the household. On the other hand, while wives may not say it or joke about it, they may react to the demands of their husband with the heart of an employee-to-their-boss or a servant-to-their-master.

Likewise, some people view God as an angry, rule-giving tyrant, whose frustrations at our lack of listening and obedience far exceed those of the most demanding and irritable spouse.

Fear God (Psalm 128:1-4)

“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. Thus is the man blessed who fears the Lord.” (Psa. 128:1-4)

WOW – what an awesome PROMISE from God to husbands and fathers! If you’ve been praying for your wife to overflow with the light and love of Christ, and for your children to be saplings of Jesus, growing in the discipline and fear of the Lord, then the equation is simple: (more…)
