Need Help? (John 14:16-17)

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:16-17)

Not too long ago, my children started following our church’s daily Bible reading plan along with my wife and I. It’s been such a blessing spending family time with them each day, praying, discussing what we’ve read, and sharing what the Lord has put on our hearts.

One of the things I taught my children to do each day before they start reading the Word, is to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide them and give them wisdom, insight, and understanding that can only come from Him. (more…)

“It Is I; Don’t Be Afraid” (John 6:18-21)

“A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. When they had rowed three or three and a half miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified. But he said to them, ‘It is I; don’t be afraid.’ Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.” (John 6:18-21)

There’s a popular saying that states: “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.” This is a call for people to depend on their own strength and to just “push through” their circumstances and “hang in there.” But fortunately God gives us a better way! (more…)

I Will Praise You In This Storm (Psalm 124:6-8)

“Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be torn by their teeth. We have escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psa. 124:6-8)

Amen! God delivers his children from that which seeks to destroy us, whether they be earthly or spiritual enemies. David draws an analogy to a bird trapped in a snare… when we turn to the Lord, He makes a way out! (more…)

Where Does My Help Come From? (Psalm 121:1-8)

“I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psa. 121:1-8)

This is such a perfect passage for my family and I based on a pretty serious medical situation that came up yesterday. (more…)
