My Soul Waits (Psalm 130:5-6)

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.” (Psa. 130:5-6)

This is a moving comparison to watchmen or sentinels, whose job was to laboriously watch and guard throughout the night, from dusk till dawn. The author captures the weight of their weariness and burden as he repeats “more than watchmen wait for the morning… more than watchmen wait for the morning.” (more…)

I Will Praise You In This Storm (Psalm 124:6-8)

“Praise be to the Lord, who has not let us be torn by their teeth. We have escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psa. 124:6-8)

Amen! God delivers his children from that which seeks to destroy us, whether they be earthly or spiritual enemies. David draws an analogy to a bird trapped in a snare… when we turn to the Lord, He makes a way out! (more…)

Where Does My Help Come From? (Psalm 121:1-8)

“I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (Psa. 121:1-8)

This is such a perfect passage for my family and I based on a pretty serious medical situation that came up yesterday. (more…)
