The Deception of Wealth (Hosea 12:8)

“Ephraim boasts, ‘I am very rich; I have become wealthy. With all my wealth they will not find in me any iniquity or sin.'” (Hosea 12:8)

Have you ever wondered why some people who seem to be so wicked and stand for everything that opposes God, get filthy rich? I know when I first became Christian, it was a question I wondered about. But the more I learned about God, the deceitfulness of riches, and what truly constitutes as a blessing from the Lord, I realized that being wealthy often does more harm for someone, than good. The Rewards of Wisdom (Proverbs 2:9-11)

“Then you will understand what is right and just and fair- every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.” (Prov. 2:9-11)

In Proverbs 2, God gives us very clear instruction on how to gain both godly wisdom, and reap the moral/spiritual benefits of it. Sometimes it helps me to see things in simplified lists, as it allows me to focus on practical application. (more…)

Royal and Rich (Psalm 113:7-9)

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people.” (Psa. 113:7-9)

The standards of this world define “success” as those who have fame, fortune, physical beauty, status, and control. Thank God that He doesn’t look at us in the same way that we often use to evaluate ourselves, but rather, He looks at our hearts! (1 Sam. 16:7) (more…)
