“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
Jesus is the Word, and the Word is God. While remaining fully God, He also became fully human at the same time. Through this His glory would be known, and all who receive Him and believe in His name would have the right to become children of God.
The fact that Jesus was with God in the beginning, is God at the same time, and also deliberately became human while remaining the Creator and Source of eternal life, is honestly mind-boggling. The thing is, that as crazy as this may sound to non-believers, this is a foundation of the Christian faith. For a Christian to doubt this truth, is to doubt the very purpose of why we should believe in the first place.
We believe in Jesus because we believe that He is our salvation- He is the the One that bridges the gap between heaven and earth and gives us access to a relationship with God. If we don’t truly believe that the “Jesus” that walked this earth 2,000 years ago, was crucified on Calvary, and that rose again 3 days later, isn’t also the Word and God all at the same time, then what we’re putting our faith in isn’t worth putting our faith in at all.
If we are to trust our eternal lives to Jesus, then we must have enough faith to believe that He is truly God. If we lack the faith to believe this truth, then we will not have enough faith to walk in trust and obedience during our time on earth.
The other thought that crosses my mind, is that if we truly believe that Jesus is God, do we actually revere Him as God? Do our lives reflect that Jesus is God? Do we honestly live like He is our Lord and Savior, or do we just offer him (and others) lip service regarding our faith?
Our time on earth is short, and if we are true followers of Christ, then we must do everything we can to seek Him, worship Him, and obey Him. To do so signifies true belief that Jesus is the Messiah, and by believing, may we have life in His name!
“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31)
