“Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.” (Prov. 9:1)
Over the course of Proverbs, we see wisdom personified as a woman.
In Proverbs 9, we see that the wisdom of the Lord has built her house with seven pillars. The number 7 (seven) in the Bible represents completeness and perfection, painting the picture that God’s wisdom lacks nothing!
Both folly and wisdom have built houses in which we are invited, and similar to the banquet Jesus describes in Luke 14, while many have been invited to wisdom’s house and may even intend to go, we get sidetracked by the things of this world and never make it.
For me personally, I have to battle against my schedule, busyness, work, ministry, family, and so many other obligations that pull me away from entering the house of wisdom. It’s so easy to get caught up in self-centered activities and temptations that may appease my flesh, but simultaneously hinder my walk with God.
God is not asking us to forego all of our other obligations and responsibilities, but rather to prioritize Him and invite Him to be the driving force behind all of those obligations and responsibilities. We shouldn’t be separating our faith walk from our daily lives, rather, they should be one in the same– joined by the hip so to speak, and completely integrated on all levels.
When we tie our relationship with Christ and the pursuit of His wisdom into our every day activities, the most mundane activities will become supercharged, purpose-filled, and Spirit-led! Let’s not walk past the house of wisdom to which we are all invited, but enter in and sit at her table.
“Leave your simple [foolish/God-less] ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.” (Prov. 9:6)
