“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.” (Psa. 130:5-6)
This is a moving comparison to watchmen or sentinels, whose job was to laboriously watch and guard throughout the night, from dusk till dawn. The author captures the weight of their weariness and burden as he repeats “more than watchmen wait for the morning… more than watchmen wait for the morning.”
They eagerly await the touch of light from the sun to bring them respite and relief from the long, dark night.
Have you been waiting for the Lord to move in a particular situation of your life? Do you feel burdened by the weight of life, or perhaps by the weight of a particular circumstance or stronghold of sin?
Then take heart, because the light is surely coming! More sure than the sun rises each day, our security and hope is rather in the Lord and His unfailing love.
Whatever your circumstance is, patiently wait as you plant His Word deep in your heart and put your hope squarely on Him. Like the watchmen who wait for the morning, eagerly anticipate that God will move, and that He will redeem and restore you as you put your dependence on Him!
“O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.” (Psa. 130:7-8)
Amen!
