If We Would Only Listen (Psalm 81:13-14)

“If my people would only listen to me, if Israel would only follow my ways, how quickly would I subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes!” (Psa. 81:13-14)

God was waiting for Israel to repent and turn back to Him. He wanted to restore them and bless them w/ His covenant promises, but they were in no position to receive His blessing.

Are we putting ourselves in position to receive God’s blessings by putting Him in the driver’s seat, or are our hands still on the steering wheel, only checking in with the Lord once in a while for directions?

God reminds us in this passage that He is waiting for us to listen and obey. We obey not out of legalism or because God is a dictator, but we obey out of our love for Christ and out of recognition of who He is in our life… our LORD and Savior!

He wants a relationship with us, and wants to pour His blessings upon us as His children, just as we want to do with our own children.

2 John 1:6 reminds us, “And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.”

Make a commitment to walk in love today!
