“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
Someone from my men’s group at work shared a story this morning in our chat room about his son coming home from school, learning curse words from his classmates. His son was confessing to the dad that he knew it was wrong and shouldn’t be saying those words, but he was having a hard time stopping. The dad went on to share how he was sharing with his son (11 years old) from Scripture, on why it’s so important to tame our tongues.
I think this is a timely reminder from God to all of us who are fathers, husbands, and most importantly, spiritual leaders of our households. As long as we live lives of reverent fear and worship of the Lord, and are faithful to instruct our households in the ways of the Lord, we can leave the results to God. Through His Spirit, the Lord will be the one to guide them, convict them, and change their hearts!
My daughter woke up today and came down the stairs, crying. This is really rare, so we knew she wasn’t feeling well. She said her throat was hurting and she felt really congested. We took time to take her temperature, give her vitamin C and lots of water, etc. But the most important thing I did with her, was pray with her, and pray healing over her in Jesus’ name. After we prayed, she immediately perked up and said, “Thank you Daddy! I feel so much better already!”
God loves our own children and spouses more than we ever will or are even capable of. Let’s remember to put Christ in the center of our family, whether dealing with situations regarding our children, our spouses, or even ourselves! When we do so, He will be faithful to respond and work within our families by the character of His goodness.
