No Pain, No Gain

I train in a sport called MMA (mixed martial arts). It’s a rough sport that is essentially a mixture of stand-up and ground fighting. I only casually do it for exercise and fitness, but even then it is extremely rough on my aging body. (more…)

Look Into His Eyes

Note: This happened recently when I traveled to downtown Cincinnati, OH for work.

“Hey! Do you have money for food?! Someone give me money! I need some food, I’m f#$^@*& starving here!”

I heard his frustrated voice barreling down the corridor of upscale restaurants towards me, aggressively going from person to person with an echoing demand for food. Although I was facing the other direction, I could tell by the closing proximity of his voice that I was his next target. I said a quick prayer and mentally braced myself. (more…)

Shift Reality

During a small group discussion at a conference I attended recently, we discussed the issue of how many of us as Christians live our day-to-day lives seemingly uninspired, simply going through the motions. Complacency can lead us to merely accepting where we currently are… it is what it is, right? But if you feel like there’s more to life than what you’re currently experiencing, then why settle? (more…)
